Lost Phone Returned With Photos Of Human Skeleton

Date:

A man in Thailand was left horrified after retrieving his lost phone and discovering a series of photos showing human remains saved in the device. Police traced the images back to a man who had accidentally found the skeleton inside an abandoned building, leading to the victim’s identification and contact with his family.

The phone owner reported losing his device near Soi Chaeng Wattana 14 in Bangkok on September 30. After calling his number, he arranged to meet the person who had picked it up. While the exchange seemed odd—he noted the man appeared mentally unstable—he took back his phone without issue. But once home, he was stunned to see multiple photos of bones stored on it. Disturbed, he posted the images on Facebook, appealing for help so the deceased could rest in peace.

Police later identified the man with the photos as 30-year-old Bas. When questioned, Bas said he never intended to steal the phone, only to wait until its owner contacted him. Because the phone was locked, the only usable function was the camera. He explained that while exploring an abandoned building, he stumbled upon a skeleton on the third floor and snapped pictures out of shock.

Investigators and forensic experts inspected the site, finding skeletal remains next to a black backpack containing a wallet and ID. The deceased was confirmed as 55-year-old La Kham-inbut from Lampang province. Experts estimated he had been dead for at least three to four months.

La’s elder brother told police that the two had once lived together in Chiang Mai, but La later moved to Bangkok for work and changed his phone number. The family had not heard from him in nearly a year. His brother, devastated by the news, said he would arrange a funeral to finally lay him to rest.
