The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Information Assessment Committee (JMM) is currently reviewing a complaint regarding alleged discrepancies in petroleum cargo documents at Tanjung Langsat Port, Johor.
Maritime Network Sdn Bhd chief executive officer R Jeyenderan, who lodged the complaint via email in mid-June, said the matter remains under review and investigation.
He said the company respected MACC’s procedures and the ongoing investigation process, while only seeking updates on the status of the complaint and whether any additional information was required.
“We respect MACC and the investigation process.
“We only want to know the latest status and whether further information is needed,” he said in a statement.
Jeyenderan had earlier visited the MACC headquarters to seek updates on the progress of the investigation.
The matter previously drew attention after the Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) raised concerns over the alleged inconsistencies in petroleum cargo documentation, warning that such issues could potentially create opportunities for misconduct.
MCW president Jais Abdul Karim was quoted as saying that MACC should give immediate attention to the allegations if there were elements involving corruption, abuse of power or document falsification.
Meanwhile, Jeyenderan said he believed the investigation findings could have wider implications for the maritime industry, particularly in areas involving regulatory compliance, government revenue and public confidence in the maritime and petroleum sectors.
