Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Wife Over Drug Money In Saratok

Date:

A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife in an incident believed to be linked to a drug-related demand for money in Krian, near Saratok, on May 21.

Saratok District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the incident took place at a private residence when the 26-year-old suspect became aggressive after the victim refused to give him money, reportedly intended to buy drugs.

He said the victim, who works as a security guard and is also the suspect’s wife, lodged a police report following the attack.

“The suspect allegedly acted aggressively and assaulted his wife after she refused to give him RM30, which he claimed was for drug use,” he said in a statement.

The victim suffered swelling to both sides of her eyebrows and bruising on her left cheek as a result of the assault.

Following the report, police launched an investigation and the suspect later surrendered himself to authorities.

Mathew said the couple had been married since 2020 and have a five-year-old daughter together.

He added that the suspect continued to assault the victim multiple times on the face and back after she refused his demand for money.

A urine test later confirmed that the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act.
