Man Arrested After Allegedly Beating Kitten With Aluminium Broom In Batu Gajah

Date:

Police have arrested a man suspected of repeatedly beating a kitten with an aluminium broom at a residential area in Batu Gajah, Perak, yesterday.

Batu Gajah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad said police received information about the incident at about 12.04pm after a neighbour, who witnessed the incident, recorded it on video.

Police reviewed the two-minute-and-19-second recording and found that a man was allegedly seen hitting the kitten several times with an aluminium broom.

“The incident took place at the parking area of the suspect’s house. Following the incident, the suspect went to the Batu Gajah district police headquarters to surrender before being detained to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement today.

Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to hitting the kitten, claiming the animal had entered the engine compartment of his vehicle parked at the house.

Md Noor Aehawan said the suspect claimed he was concerned the kitten could be injured or pose a danger if the vehicle’s engine was started, while also fearing possible damage to the vehicle.

The kitten was found to be alive and was taken by the suspect’s neighbour to a veterinary clinic for treatment today.

“Police will obtain a veterinary report on the kitten’s condition to complete the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code and Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
