Man Dies, Wife Injured After Lorry Suddenly Turns Left on Jalan Ipoh–Lumut

Date:

An elderly man was killed while his wife was seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a lorry on Jalan Ipoh–Lumut on Saturday.

Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the crash occurred around 3pm when a 23-year-old Hino lorry driver suddenly turned left after passing a traffic light, leaving the motorcyclist unable to react in time.

The victim, Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, 60, died at the scene. His wife, Azizah Mat Jamat, 61, suffered a fractured left leg and was rushed to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) for treatment.

The victim’s body has been sent to HRPB’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem.

Police also found that the motorcycle had no valid road tax and expired insurance.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the lorry driver has been detained to assist with the probe.

A 30-second dashcam video that has gone viral shows the lorry indicating right but turning left as the traffic light turned green, moments before the collision.
