Man Digs Underground Tunnel For 9 Days To Rob Gold Shop, Caught After Splurging On New Phone

Date:

A man successfully broke into a gold shop after spending nine days digging an underground tunnel to reach it.

According to MeKong News, CCTV footage captured the man—dressed entirely in black and wearing a headlamp—making off with about four kilograms of gold on September 28.

The suspect, who worked at a car wash, told police that he spent most of his time digging, except on rainy days.

“He began digging on September 15. He wanted to do something different from the usual robberies that happen through the front door or by climbing over walls,” the report stated.

The man reportedly sold around 551 grams of the stolen gold and used part of the money to buy a new mobile phone.

However, his short-lived moment as a ‘new rich man’ quickly ended when authorities arrested him on October 1.
