A man and five male juveniles were separately charged in the Sessions Court and Magistrate’s Court here today over the alleged rape and gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in July.
At the Sessions Court, an 18-year-old unemployed man was charged with raping the teenager at a house in Simpang Empat at about 2am on July 18.
The charge was brought under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyers Mohamad Alif Farhan Mohamad Supian and Zuhair Ahmad Zakuan.
The court granted the accused RM7,000 bail with one surety and ordered him to report to the nearest police station at the start of every month until the case is concluded. He was also prohibited from contacting or interfering with the victim and prosecution witnesses.
The case will be mentioned on Oct 9 for the submission of relevant documents.
Meanwhile, five male juveniles aged between 15 and 17 pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to charges involving the same victim.
According to the charge sheets, the five were accused of gang-raping the girl at the same house in two separate incidents.
The first incident allegedly involved two of the juveniles between 3am and 4am on July 18, while the second allegedly involved four of them between 2am and 5am the following day.
All five were charged under Section 375B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Alia Suzila Chek Pi prosecuted the case, while lawyer Wan Nursyaheedah Wan Najmi represented all five juveniles.
The court granted bail ranging from RM500 to RM1,000 for each accused.
The case has been fixed for mention on Oct 7, when conduct reports will be submitted and the facts of the cases presented before sentencing.
