A Malaysian man has sparked fierce backlash online after claiming that a wife’s sole responsibility in a marriage is to give birth — and that husbands should therefore not be expected to pay childbirth-related hospital bills.
The controversial view was shared by a Threads user named Daniel, who wrote that giving birth was the wife’s “job” and argued that her husband should not be responsible for the medical expenses incurred during childbirth.
The post quickly went viral, drawing criticism from netizens who condemned what they described as a misogynistic attitude towards women and marriage.
One netizen mocked Daniel’s intelligence with a sarcastic remark questioning whether he had been absent when “God was handing out brains”.
Another took aim at the wording used in Daniel’s Threads bio, which stated, “Fakta tidak peduli tentang perasaan anda” — or “facts do not care about your feelings”.
“No wonder the lack of empathy,” the netizen quipped.
A check of Daniel’s Threads account showed that he had previously shared several posts about marriage, although none appeared to have attracted the same level of attention as his latest controversial take.
The post has since prompted a wider debate online over financial responsibility, gender roles and the expectations placed on husbands and wives in marriage.
