Man Jailed 13 Years After Killing Friend At Kluang Elderly Care Home

The High Court here today sentenced a 68-year-old convert to Islam to 13 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to causing the death of his friend during a fight involving a machete and scissors at an elderly care home in Kluang seven years ago.

Judge Zamri Bakar imposed the sentence on Mansur Poh Abdullah after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Mansur Poh was accused of causing the death of 55-year-old Asri Asmadi at an elderly care centre in Kampung Chokru, Batu 7, Simpang Renggam, Kluang.

The offence was committed at about 7.05pm on October 10, 2019. Section 304(a) of the Penal Code provides for up to 30 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, police received a call at around 8.12pm on the day of the incident informing them that a man had died at the care centre.

Following the discovery of the body, police arrested Mansur Poh to assist with investigations. During questioning, he admitted using a machete and scissors while fighting with the victim.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Othman Affan Ismail led the prosecution, while Mansur Poh was represented by lawyers T Amuthen, Chong Chai Ling, S Paul Krishnaraja and S Virochean.
