Man Killed As 4WD Overturns at Bentong Toll, Wife Escapes with Minor Injuries

Date:

An elderly man died while his wife sustained minor injuries after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving overturned after hitting a wall at the Bentong Toll Plaza on Monday.

Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said the driver, 65-year-old Sapri Aziz, was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head injuries. The 61-year-old female passenger, believed to be his wife, suffered minor injuries.

“Initial investigations indicate the couple was travelling from Raub towards Kuala Lumpur when the vehicle lost control, crashed into the safety wall of a lane, and overturned to the left,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The injured passenger was sent to Bentong Hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the toll area and are seeking witnesses. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
