A 35-year-old man was killed while his wife and five-year-old daughter were injured after the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in collided with a lorry on Jalan Lukut-Sepang yesterday.
The crash occurred at about 6.50pm at Kilometre 13.5 of the road, with the lorry driver later found to have recorded an alcohol reading above the permitted limit.
Port Dickson district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Afiq Mohd Adnan said the man died at the scene from severe injuries, while his 32-year-old wife and daughter were injured.
Preliminary investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 46-year-old man from Lukut towards Sepang, allegedly lost control before veering into the opposite lane and crashing into the family’s car.
“The lorry driver was not injured. An initial urine screening was negative, but a breathalyser test recorded an alcohol reading above the permitted limit.
“All victims were taken to Port Dickson Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement today.
Police have arrested the lorry driver and are investigating the case under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The suspect is expected to be brought before a court for a remand application this morning, while investigations are ongoing.
