2027 School Year To Begin On January 4, Education Ministry Announces

Date:

The 2027 academic year for national and government-aided schools will begin on Jan 4 next year, the Education Ministry (MOE) announced.

Schools in Group A states — Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu — will operate from Jan 4 until Dec 2, 2027.

For Group B states, the academic year will run from Jan 4 until Dec 3. The group comprises Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

The ministry has also coordinated the dates for additional school holidays throughout the 2027 academic year for major celebrations, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Kaamatan, Gawai Dayak, Wesak Day and Christmas.

“All schools must comply with the additional holidays allocated by the Education Ministry for major celebrations, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Wesak Day and Deepavali. These additional holidays do not need to be replaced,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The MOE also announced that the 2028 academic year will begin on Jan 3 for both Group A and Group B states.

The standardised start date is intended to ensure the 2028 school year begins simultaneously nationwide, while making it easier for schools to plan administrative activities and organise teaching and learning more systematically and effectively.
