Man Remanded Over Mosque Bag Snatch In Alor Gajah

Date:

A local unemployed man has been remanded for four days to assist investigations into a suspected bag snatching incident involving a university student at a mosque in Kampung Jelatang, Alor Gajah.

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested by police at around 8.35pm yesterday along the roadside in Taman Mahsuri, Pulau Sebang.

According to Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, the suspect was brought to the Magistrate’s Court this morning, where a four-day remand order was granted until June 12.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

The incident reportedly occurred last Sunday at Masjid Ar-Rasyidin, where the victim’s bag was allegedly taken while she was performing prayers.

The case went viral after CCTV footage lasting 23 seconds showed a man in a blue T-shirt and black shorts fleeing the mosque while carrying a bag, before being pursued by a female worshipper.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
