Man Trampled To Death By Elephant While Searching For Missing Cow

Date:

A 66-year-old man was killed after being attacked by an elephant while searching for a cow he had recently bought that went missing at Ladang Lepan Kabu on Wednesday afternoon.

Ghazali Setapa suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident at about 3.30pm.

His son, Muhammad Jawal Ghazali, 25, said his father had gone to the plantation to look for the missing cow before the attack.

“I was sleeping at home when my brother, Muhammad Amin Ghazali, 27, returned at 4.30pm and informed me about the incident.

“My brother told me that our father had died after being trampled by an elephant,” he said when contacted.

Muhammad Jawal said his father’s body was later taken to the forensic unit at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Pahi mukim head Muhammad Khairul Anuar Muhammad Noor said Ghazali and a friend had encountered the elephant while searching for the cow.

He said Ghazali had told his friend to leave the area and alert the Department of Wildlife and National Parks about the elephant.

“The elephant was said to have made noises three times and, possibly because the victim was too close, it attacked him,” he said.
