A serial offender with 27 previous offences on his criminal record has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and slashing his wife with a sharp weapon.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said Hospital Ampang notified police of the suspected abuse on Aug 29.
“A report was lodged after the hospital treated the victim, a woman in her 40s, who was allegedly assaulted and slashed with a sharp weapon by the suspect, her husband through an unregistered marriage,” he said on Wednesday (Sept 16).
SAC Sazalee said the woman was injured and admitted to the hospital’s orthopaedic ward before lodging a police report herself after being discharged on Sept 4.
Acting on information gathered, police arrested the suspect, a man in his 30s, at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Sept 8.
The suspect is unemployed.
“Further checks found that the suspect is a repeat offender with 27 previous offences, comprising 15 criminal cases and 12 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“A urine test on the suspect also came back positive for drugs,” Sazalee said.
He added that the suspect had since been released on police bail while investigations continue under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.
