Massive Blaze Destroys Row Of Stalls In Karamunting Area

Nine semi-permanent stalls at Kampung Pening Lalat in Karamunting, Sandakan were destroyed in a fire this morning, along with three vehicles and a motorcycle.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the department received an emergency call at 11.43am before dispatching a team to the scene.

He said a total of 16 firefighters were deployed, supported by Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), Compressed Foam Rescue Tender (CFRT) and Water Tanker units.

Upon arrival at 11.58am, firefighters found a row of stalls engulfed in flames, covering an estimated area of 80 by 200 feet with about 80 per cent of the structures destroyed.

Firefighters worked to control the blaze using a 300-foot hose line with two water jets from fire engines, as well as water supply from a nearby hydrant.

The fire was brought under control by 12.05pm, after which suppression and safety checks continued to ensure the area was fully secured.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the total losses involved.
