MetMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning For Several States Until 5PM

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning affecting several areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah until 5pm today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the affected areas in the peninsula include Perak (Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli), and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Temerloh).

Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Selangor, including Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Gombak, as well as several districts in Johor such as Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.

In Sarawak, bad weather is forecast for Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.

Meanwhile in Sabah, the warning covers the Interior Division (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan), West Coast, Sandakan (Telupid) and Kudat (Kota Marudu).

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour are expected or occurring and may last for more than an hour in affected areas.

It added that the warning is a short-term alert, valid for not more than six hours for each issuance.
