The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds expected to affect eight states and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur until 5pm today.
In a statement released at 2pm, MetMalaysia said the weather alert covers the entire states of Melaka and Penang, while several areas in Kedah including Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu are also expected to be affected.
The warning also involves several districts in Perak, including Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.
For Pahang, affected areas include Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Pekan and Rompin, while Selangor districts under the alert are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
MetMalaysia also listed Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan and several areas in Johor, namely Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Mersing, as locations expected to experience the adverse weather conditions.
The public is advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions, especially when travelling during the affected period.
