Missing Couple Linked To ‘Kutu’ Debt Surrender To Police, Child Still Missing

Date:

A husband and wife who were reported missing since July 20 and were believed to be linked to unpaid ‘kutu’ (rotating savings scheme) debts have surrendered to police.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said the couple, aged 39 and 36, turned themselves in at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about 1.50am on Thursday.

He said both suspects are expected to be brought before the Jitra Magistrate’s Court today for a remand application as investigations continue.

The couple had earlier been reported missing after allegedly leaving their home in Taman Desa Bayanmas, Bukit Kayu Hitam on July 20 together with their nine-year-old child, before all contact with them was lost.

Concern over their disappearance prompted the woman’s 62-year-old father to lodge a police report at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Police Station after he was unable to trace his daughter, son-in-law and grandchild.

Police previously revealed that investigations had uncovered a report lodged by a 23-year-old man who claimed he lost RM25,000 in a ‘kutu’ scheme allegedly involving the 36-year-old woman.

The report strengthened police investigations into the couple’s disappearance, with authorities exploring whether financial issues linked to the rotating savings scheme were connected to the case.

While the husband and wife have now surrendered to police, Mohd Radzi confirmed that their nine-year-old child has yet to be located and efforts to trace the child remain ongoing.

Police have not disclosed further details as investigations continue.
