Mom of Three Electrocuted After Charging Phone Slips Into Bath

Date:

According to The Mirror, a tragic accident occurred in Dublin, Ireland, when 46-year-old mother of three, Ann-Marie O’Gorman, was electrocuted after her charging iPhone slipped into the bathtub while she was bathing on the evening of October 30, 2024, around 8 p.m.

Her husband, who had been out at the time, returned home to find O’Gorman lying motionless in the tub. At first, he thought she had fallen asleep, but quickly realized something was wrong when he noticed the iPhone and charging cable in the water. He immediately pulled her out and performed CPR while calling emergency services.

Paramedics arrived around 8:30 p.m., but despite efforts to revive her, O’Gorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators confirmed there were no traces of drugs or alcohol in her system, nor any underlying health issues that could have caused her death. The autopsy also revealed no water in her lungs, leading authorities to conclude the cause of death was electrocution from the phone.

O’Gorman’s husband later explained that he was not electrocuted when lifting her because he was wearing rubber slippers. He has since urged phone manufacturers to include clear safety warnings on electronic devices to prevent similar tragedies, warning against overreliance on so-called “waterproof” features promoted in marketing.
