M’sian Man Receives Obituary Notice From Loan Sharks Despite Paying RM600k To Clear Dad’s Debts

Date:

A Malaysian company director and his elder sister have spent RM600,000 over six years helping their father settle debts owed to loan sharks, only to continue facing harassment over his alleged borrowing.

The 31-year-old man, identified as Lee, said his father, Lee Chee Wai, repeatedly approached the siblings for money despite their efforts to clear his debts.

Speaking at a press conference alongside MCA Youth deputy national chief Neow Choo Seong, Lee said his father owed loan sharks RM35,000 in November 2025, forcing him and his sister to pay the amount themselves.

After settling the debt, the siblings decided to cut ties with their father and signed a formal agreement with him stating that they would take legal action if he approached them for money again.

However, Lee said the agreement failed to stop his father from borrowing from illegal moneylenders.

On Sept 29, 2026, the siblings began receiving messages from strangers claiming their father owed loan sharks another RM10,000.

They subsequently lodged three separate police reports, but the loan sharks allegedly began threatening them just hours later.

“Just four hours after we lodged the police report, the loan sharks somehow found out and threatened to come harass my company,” Lee said.

He added that the loan sharks sent him a screenshot of a fake obituary bearing his name and claiming his funeral would be held three days later.

Lee appealed to the loan sharks to stop harassing him and his sister, urging them to pursue the person who had actually borrowed the money.

The siblings also criticised their father, who is currently uncontactable, for treating them like “human ATMs” over the past eight years.
