The electricity supply to a premises in Jalan Kampung Pinang, Mukah, has been disconnected after the location was suspected of being used to operate illegal online gambling activities.
Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the operation involved officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD), together with personnel from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
He said the premises had previously been raided, with the operator later charged in court over alleged involvement in running illegal online gambling activities.
“The electricity supply was disconnected under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 to prevent any further illegal gambling operations from continuing at the premises,” he said.
Muhamad Rizal added that a notice regarding the power disconnection was issued to the premises owner, who was present during the operation.
He said the enforcement operation proceeded smoothly, with no untoward incidents or objections from individuals at the location.
The police chief also reminded members of the public not to participate in illegal gambling activities, warning that firm action would be taken against those involved.
He said illegal gambling could result in legal consequences, including arrest and prosecution, while also causing financial difficulties and social issues that could affect individuals, families and the wider community.
