Scam-related losses in Pahang dropped to RM46 million in the first seven months of this year, compared with RM51 million recorded during the same period in 2025, despite a rise in commercial crime cases.
Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said 1,893 investigation papers involving commercial crimes were opened between January and July this year, compared with 1,658 during the corresponding period last year.
He said this represented a 14 per cent increase in investigation papers, although the financial losses suffered by victims showed a decline.
“The Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department arrested 1,380 people between January and July this year, compared with 1,167 during the same period last year.
“We managed to charge 769 cases in court this year, an increase from 633 cases last year,” he said in his speech at the state contingent police headquarters’ monthly gathering here today.
Azry attributed some of the recovery efforts to strategic cooperation between police and financial institutions through the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC).
He said RM355,355 had been recovered so far this year, with RM134,546 successfully returned to victims.
Meanwhile, Azry said the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department seized drugs worth RM8.9 million during the first seven months of this year, a significant decrease from the RM25 million worth of drugs seized over the same period last year.
The department arrested 8,277 people this year, slightly higher than the 8,243 arrests recorded last year. However, the number of cases fell from 7,249 in 2025 to 7,181 this year.
On road safety, Azry said traffic cases recorded a slight increase, with 14,640 cases reported so far this year compared with 14,016 during the corresponding period last year.
Of the cases recorded this year, 242 involved fatal accidents, compared with 265 fatal accidents reported last year.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Criminal Investigation Department showed that 1,262 cases had been opened during the first seven months of this year, up from 1,157 cases recorded during the same period last year.
The figures show that while commercial crime activity continues to rise in terms of reported cases, enforcement efforts and cooperation with financial institutions have contributed to reducing the overall financial impact on victims.
