Passenger Sparks Outrage After Allegedly Cooking Food Inside ETS Train

Date:

A passenger believed to be a Chinese national sparked concern after allegedly cooking food inside a train carriage while travelling on Malaysia’s Electric Train Service (ETS).

According to a post shared by Facebook page “新柔关卡路况情报站”, the incident occurred yesterday afternoon on a Gold Class ETS train travelling from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur.

The netizen claimed that a passenger seated at Coach F, seat 6C — described as speaking with a China-accented Mandarin — was seen using the train’s power socket and a three-pin adaptor to prepare food inside the carriage.

Alarmed by the potential safety risks, the netizen said he immediately informed the KTMB driver, train captain, and station staff at Kluang to prevent any possible electrical hazard.

He also urged passengers to practise civil behaviour and follow train safety regulations, warning that unauthorised use of electrical appliances on board could lead to short circuits or serious accidents.

The incident quickly gained traction online, with many netizens expressing disbelief.

“Absolutely unbelievable — cooking on a train?” one commenter wrote, while another said the situation was “both shocking and absurd”.

Others reacted with humour, joking that someone could open a “mobile self-cooking buffet” on board, allowing passengers to buy ingredients and cook meals during the journey.
