The licence of a petrol station owner in Nibong Tebal, Penang, could be suspended or revoked if found guilty of allegedly abusing petrol and diesel subsidies under the Budi Madani programme.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said a police report had been lodged, with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) conducting further investigations.
He said KPDN could suspend or revoke the owner’s Controlled Scheduled Goods (CSA) licence if the allegations were proven.
Armizan said subsidy manipulation had significant financial implications and that the ministry took such abuse seriously as the agency responsible for regulating controlled goods.
Earlier, the Finance Ministry barred a petrol station in Sungai Buaya, Nibong Tebal, from selling RON95 petrol and subsidised diesel under Budi Madani after detecting suspicious transactions believed to involve subsidy abuse.
A review of the station’s transaction records found more than 1,000 transactions involving manual overrides, accounting for over 100,000 litres of petrol and more than RM270,000 in government subsidies.
The action followed complaints from several Budi Madani recipients who discovered that their MyKad details had allegedly been used without their knowledge to purchase subsidised petrol.
