Police are searching for a man believed to be involved in the alleged sexual harassment and attempted abduction of a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Taman Sri Saujana, Kota Tinggi.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said a report on the incident was lodged last Thursday, with investigations currently being carried out under Section 15(a)(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
He said officers are actively tracking down the suspect, who has been described as a tall, slim and dark-complexioned man. Members of the public with information related to the case have been urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Nurul Zakiyah Daud at 011-26046234 or visit the nearest police station.
The case drew public attention after the victim’s mother shared details of the ordeal on social media. According to the post, the incident took place between 6.30am and 6.40am while the teenager was travelling to school on an electric scooter.
The girl alleged that she was followed by a man riding a motorcycle fitted with a p-hailing delivery box from an area near a school to Taman SS6. The suspect allegedly exposed himself, showed her obscene videos on his mobile phone, offered her money and attempted to grab her hand.
Fearing for her safety, the teenager sped off on her scooter and managed to reach her school, where she broke down in tears while recounting the incident to her teacher. The case has raised renewed concern over the safety of schoolchildren travelling alone, particularly during the early morning hours.
The victim’s mother has since reminded parents and students to remain vigilant, urging families to ensure children stay alert and cautious when travelling outside their homes.
