Perak police have opened an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Perak State Economic Development Corporation (PKNPk) following the circulation of claims on social media.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the investigation was launched after PKNPk lodged a police report over the dissemination of the allegations.
He said the probe was still at an early stage, with police working to identify the individuals behind the social media accounts involved.
“We have opened an investigation paper under Section 507A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The investigation is based on the report lodged, and we are still awaiting feedback from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the TikTok account involved,” he said at a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters on Thursday.
Mohd Alwi said police had yet to record statements from any witnesses as investigators first needed to establish the identity of the account owner before proceeding with further action.
He also confirmed that police had not received any reports from individuals claiming to have been victims of sexual harassment linked to the allegations circulating online.
The issue emerged after several social media posts went viral alleging misconduct and immoral activities at a company linked to the Perak state government.
PKNPk subsequently lodged several reports and complaints with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and MCMC over the spread of the allegations.
In a statement, PKNPk said the reports and complaints were made between July 30 and Aug 3 after a Facebook page allegedly published repeated accusations against the organisation, its management and certain individuals.
