Police Nab Five Teens Over Sharp Weapon Robbery Case

Police have arrested five teenage boys believed to be involved in a group robbery involving sharp weapons at a premises along Jalan Tun Jugah, Kuching, on June 1.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said all suspects were locals aged between 14 and 18.

He said the teenagers were detained in several raids conducted around Kuching and Serian between 12.15am and 3am on Friday.

The arrests were carried out by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (D9) of the Kuching District Police Headquarters. Police also seized a vehicle believed to have been used during the incident.

Initial checks found that none of the suspects had previous criminal records. They have since been remanded for five days to assist investigations into the case.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery involving dangerous weapons. If convicted, offenders may face up to 20 years’ imprisonment and can also be subjected to whipping.

He also thanked the public for their cooperation in assisting police efforts to combat crime and maintain safety and public order in Kuching.
