A police corporal was charged at the Sessions Court today for allegedly disposing of 10 boxes of methamphetamine, which were part of a case exhibit stored at the Tanah Merah District Police Headquarters.
The accused, Mohamad Syazlee Ideris, 38, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah.
He is accused of having reason to believe that an offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 had been committed, which led to the loss of evidence by allegedly disposing of methamphetamine linked to a Section 39B case involving drugs that carry the death penalty upon conviction.
The offence was allegedly committed at the evidence storage facility of the Tanah Merah IPD between 7 February 2022 and 7 April 2026.
He was charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim objected to bail, seeking a high amount with strict conditions if the court allowed it.
However, the court allowed bail of RM30,000 with one surety, along with additional conditions requiring the accused to report monthly to the nearest police station.
The court fixed 3 August for mention of the case.
