Police Probe Alleged Ketum Drink Sales At Paka R&R

Date:

Police have received reports regarding two viral videos on social media allegedly showing the open sale of ketum drinks at the exit area of the Paka Rest and Relax (R&R) stop along the route from Kemaman to Kuala Terengganu.

Dungun District Police Chief Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said initial investigations found that the incident was believed to have occurred during the RXZ Members 8.0 programme, with the location serving as a main route for participants heading to the event venue.

Following the reports, a team of officers and personnel from the Dungun District Police Headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Division was deployed to inspect the area.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found that there was no longer any ketum drink-selling activity as shown in the viral video recordings,” he said.

Nik Ab Halim stressed that police view seriously any activities involving the sale or misuse of ketum drinks, as well as the abuse of prohibited substances and drugs.

He added that monitoring and enforcement efforts would continue, especially at crowded locations and during large-scale events.

“If any arrests or seizures are made, the case may be investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to contact the Dungun District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist investigations.
