Police have launched an investigation into a man who allegedly caused a commotion and provoked members of the public during the National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.
Putrajaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed said four police reports had been lodged in connection with the incident.
Police have also identified a 2-minute-18-second video circulating online which allegedly shows a local man behaving provocatively during the incident.
According to Aidi Sham, the man was believed to have pushed and barged through members of the public who were waiting for the gates to the public seating area to open.
The incident reportedly triggered a pushing and shoving situation, with several people falling to the ground amid the chaos.
He said the incident was believed to have taken place at around 5am when large crowds had gathered while waiting for access to the public seating area.
Police are now working to identify and locate the man and have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
“The man is also urged to appear at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist with the investigation,” Aidi Sham said in a statement on Tuesday.
The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
