Police rescued a kidnapping victim and arrested six suspects less than 48 hours after the victim was allegedly abducted and a RM7 million ransom was demanded for his release.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar said police received a report on the kidnapping at about 1.30am yesterday from the victim’s wife.
He said a joint operation involving Bukit Aman Special Branch and Selangor CID officers was immediately launched following information received, leading to the victim’s rescue early this morning.
“The raid team successfully rescued the victim at about 1am today at a residential unit in the i-City area, Shah Alam, Selangor.
“During the same operation, police arrested six individuals comprising five local men and one local woman aged between 30 and 46 for further investigation,” he said in a statement.
Kumar said police also seized various types of drugs, several mobile phones and vehicles believed to have been used in connection with the criminal activity.
The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping for ransom, which carries a minimum imprisonment term of 30 years and up to 40 years, including whipping, upon conviction.
He added that investigations were also being conducted under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 against all those arrested.
The six suspects have been remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, starting today, to assist investigations.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify possible involvement of other individuals, determine the motive behind the incident and uncover any criminal network linked to the case.
