Police Seek Witnesses to Fatal Accident Involving Cement Truck and Motorcycle

Date:

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal road accident on Jalan Tun Jugah, in front of Gala City, yesterday morning.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the crash occurred around 11am when a motorcyclist in his 60s collided with the side of a cement truck. The impact threw him off his motorcycle, and he was subsequently run over by the heavy vehicle.

“Medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital’s Emergency Unit confirmed the victim’s death at the scene at 11.07am,” Alexson said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death. If convicted, offenders may face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has relevant information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Rashdan Rosli, at 013-6204758, or the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 082-259900.

Alexson also reminded road users to remain vigilant, follow traffic regulations, and stay alert to unexpected hazards while driving.
