Police Step Up Patrols After Four Crime Reports In Tanjung Bungah

Date:

Police have called on residents in Tanjung Bungah to immediately report any suspicious individuals as investigations continue into four criminal cases recorded in the area since last week.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said information from the public would assist authorities in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in several incidents.

He said closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings showed a man wearing a red shirt, whose face was covered, and police are investigating whether the individual is linked to the reported cases.

“Anyone who notices a suspicious person in the area is advised to contact the police immediately so that appropriate action can be taken,” he said when contacted.

Abdul Rozak said police received four reports involving different offences between July 28 and Aug 2, including a housebreaking case under Section 457 of the Penal Code, a robbery case under Sections 392/397, a trespass case under Section 448, and a theft involving a gate remote control.

He added that two of the cases involved losses amounting to about RM17,000, while the remaining two incidents did not result in any losses.

Based on CCTV footage, police believe the suspect acted alone and moved around the area on foot, as no vehicle movements were detected during the incidents.

Abdul Rozak also assured residents that there was no need to panic, describing the cases as isolated incidents. He said only four reports had been received in Tanjung Bungah since the start of the year and the overall security situation remained under control.

He clarified that claims circulating on social media alleging five houses were broken into in a single day were inaccurate, as investigations found the incidents involved four separate cases over a five-day period.

Police believe the incidents took place between midnight and the early hours of the morning.

He added that patrols around residential areas in Tanjung Bungah have been increased to ensure the safety and security of residents.

Previously, images circulated online showing a man wearing a red shirt, cap and face mask, who was alleged to be involved in housebreaking incidents in the area. The posts also claimed the suspect had broken into five homes, prompting concern among residents.
