Police are tracking several bank accounts believed to have been used as mule accounts in connection with alleged fraud involving the sale of tickets for a BTS K-pop concert.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said investigations into the case are still ongoing.
He said several bank accounts have been identified so far and are believed to be linked to the transaction trail.
“We suspect these accounts were used by a syndicate to receive payments from victims. The account holders may likely be mule account holders,” he said.
He added that no new reports have been received at this time regarding the case.
Earlier, police had advised the public to be cautious and avoid purchasing BTS concert tickets from unofficial sources or “agents” to prevent scams.
As of June 8, police had received 28 reports from individuals claiming they were cheated in ticket purchase transactions.
Reports also noted that BTS concert tickets sold out within a short time, creating opportunities for scammers to target eager fans ahead of the December show.
Ticket prices reportedly ranged from RM338 to RM1,288 through the official organiser’s website.
