Police have arrested three Rohingya men to assist investigations into a sexual offence reported at the Kampung Enjin Gergaji flats in Chukai, Kemaman.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the arrests were made after police received a report regarding the case.
He said the investigation is being conducted under Section 376 of the Penal Code, while authorities are also looking into the possibility of other individuals being involved.
“The investigation remains open to identify any other suspects who may have been involved.
“Police need to examine the case thoroughly, while the victim must also be given sufficient time and space before the investigation is completed, as the victim is a person with disabilities,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
The case has also attracted attention on social media after a TikTok video showed a gathering outside the flats at around 8.30pm on Saturday.
Mohd Razi urged members of the public not to spread unverified claims or speculation about the incident, warning that irresponsible posts could create panic and affect public harmony and safety.
He also reminded social media users to exercise caution when sharing information, particularly while police investigations are still ongoing.
At the same time, Mohd Razi urged the public not to take matters into their own hands or target individuals based solely on their ethnicity, stressing that such actions could potentially lead to criminal offences.
