A foreign man was arrested after allegedly committing an indecent act at a public playground in Cyberjaya, Sepang, on Tuesday.
Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the suspect, who is in his early 20s, was detained by members of the public before being handed over to police.
He said a local woman lodged a police report at 7.18pm regarding the incident.
According to Norhizam, the suspect allegedly placed his hand inside his trousers and repeatedly touched his private parts while staring at the woman.
Fearing for her safety, the woman sought help from nearby members of the public, who managed to detain the suspect until police officers arrived at the scene.
The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to two years upon conviction.
Police are also investigating the suspect under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for allegedly failing to possess valid travel documents.
Norhizam expressed appreciation to members of the public for assisting in detaining the suspect before handing him over to the authorities.
The incident also went viral on Threads after the woman claimed the suspect committed the alleged indecent act while looking towards her and her child at the playground. She also urged parents to remain vigilant when bringing their children to public recreational areas.
