Visitors watching a late-night movie at a cinema inside a shopping centre in Bandar Sunway were left alarmed after a restaurant on the lower level of the premises caught fire early this morning.
The blaze, which occurred at the Lower Ground level, was extinguished before firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) arrived at the scene.
Selangor JBPM Operations Division Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at about 1.23am, prompting a team from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station to be deployed.
He said eight firefighters arrived at the location about five minutes later using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and a water tanker support vehicle.
“The fire only involved cooking equipment inside a restaurant located at the Lower Ground level, and the flames had already been put out before the fire department arrived,” he said in a statement.
Ashrul Riezal added that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Earlier, several videos circulated on social media showing visitors leaving the shopping centre after being instructed to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure following the fire.
