Rapid KL Trains, Selected Buses To Operate 24 Hours For Merdeka Celebrations From Aug 30-31

Date:

Rapid KL rail services, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Kuala Lumpur Monorail, will operate around the clock from Aug 30 to Aug 31 to facilitate public movement during the 2026 National Day celebrations.

Rapid KL said in a statement that selected bus services would also operate 24 hours, including the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service and Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD).

Train frequencies on several major routes will be increased to accommodate the expected rise in passenger numbers, while additional trains will be deployed based on passenger volumes and congestion levels at stations.

“The extended operating hours are intended to ensure smoother movement for the public, particularly those attending the Merdeka Eve celebrations on the night of Aug 30 and the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya on the morning of Aug 31,” it said.

To facilitate travel to the National Day celebration venue in Putrajaya, Rapid KL will also provide free shuttle bus services involving 103 buses across two routes.

The MS01 route, running between Putrajaya Sentral Station and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Presint 2, will operate from 2pm on Aug 30 until 2pm on Aug 31.

Meanwhile, the MS02 route from the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) to Jalan Tun Hussein, Presint 3, will operate from 4am to 2pm on Aug 31.

Rapid KL said the free shuttle services were introduced to provide easier access to the celebration areas while reducing reliance on private vehicles and helping ease traffic congestion.

More than 5,000 frontline personnel from various units will also be deployed in shifts on Aug 30 and 31 to support operations, manage passenger movements and ensure crowd flow at stations and other high-traffic locations remains smooth and safe.

The public is encouraged to use public transport when travelling to National Day celebration venues to help reduce congestion on the roads.

“Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance, ensure they have sufficient balance on their Touch ’n Go cards and follow instructions from our staff, particularly at stations and areas with high passenger density,” Rapid KL said.

Further information on Rapid KL’s operations during the celebrations is available through its social media platforms and official website.
