Remand Extended For Driver In Viral Against-Flow Accident In Klang

Date:

The remand of a man who drove under the influence of alcohol and drove against traffic flow before causing severe injuries to a motorcyclist in Persiaran Kota has been extended for another four days.

South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the extension was granted after the initial remand period ended on Friday.

“The remand of the driver has been extended for another four days until May 19,” she said in a statement on Friday.

She added that checks showed the 30-something suspect had no prior criminal or drug-related records.

When asked about the victim’s condition, Lim said the victim, a local man in his 20s, is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang.

In the incident at about 12.30am on Wednesday, the suspect is believed to have driven against traffic for about 3.5 kilometres before crashing into the victim.

The impact from the Perodua Bezza left the motorcyclist with severe injuries to his body and right leg, and he was reported to be in critical condition in the red zone of HTAR.

Preliminary screening tests found that the driver tested positive for alcohol.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The incident went viral on social media after a more than two-minute video showed a car driving against traffic before hitting the motorcyclist.
