A rubbish truck believed to have suffered a brake failure crashed into a condominium wall before landing on three parked cars at Pantai Hillpark here early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at about 4.10am as the truck was travelling downhill along Jalan Pantai Murni 1 when its driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the truck subsequently smashed through the condominium’s boundary wall before its front section fell and crushed three unattended vehicles.
He said the 41-year-old local driver was not at the scene when police arrived.
“Efforts to locate the driver were carried out and he was eventually found receiving treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM),” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mohd Zamzuri said the driver suffered an injury to his left leg and later went to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at about 3.15pm to lodge a report on the incident.
Two Bangladeshi workers, both aged about 25, were also at the area at the time and were carrying out rubbish collection work. However, neither worker was injured as they were on the road when the incident occurred.
A breathalyser test on the truck driver returned a negative result for alcohol.
The truck will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for further examination to determine the actual cause of the crash.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
