Sabah Raid Uncovers 33 Drums Of Suspected Stolen Subsidised Fuel

Date:

Police seized 33 drums containing subsidised petrol and diesel during a raid on a premises in Kampung Tangkol, Jalan Marak Parak, on Wednesday afternoon.

The operation, carried out by the Marine Police Force (PPM) Region Four Sabah at about 4pm, followed intelligence gathered from an earlier case involving the alleged misuse of subsidised fuel in Pitas.

PPM Region Four Sabah commander Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said officers found 33 drums, each with a capacity of 200 litres, at the rear of the premises during the inspection.

He said 10 of the drums were believed to contain petrol, while the remaining 23 were suspected to contain diesel.

A 42-year-old man believed to be the owner of the premises was also detained after he failed to produce any valid documents, licence, permit or approval authorising the storage of the controlled fuel.

The seized items were estimated to be worth more than RM33,000 in total. The operation reflects ongoing enforcement efforts to prevent subsidised fuel from being diverted for unauthorised use.

Ahmad Amri said the raid was conducted following intelligence into activities involving the misuse of controlled goods.

The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.

He stressed that PPM Region Four Sabah would take firm action against individuals and syndicates involved in the abuse or diversion of government-subsidised controlled goods.

He added that intelligence gathering and follow-up operations would be intensified to identify those involved in the supply chain, with the aim of ensuring government subsidies reach their intended recipients rather than being exploited for private gain.
