Samarahan Air Quality Hits 222 As 40 Areas Record Unhealthy Readings

Samarahan, Sarawak recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 222 as of 7am today, while 40 other areas nationwide recorded unhealthy air quality.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), 11 areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy readings, with Sarikei registering 193, followed by Kuching and Serian at 192 each.

Other affected areas were Sri Aman (184), Mukah (182), Sibu (182), Samalaju (180), Bintulu (172), ILP Miri (170), Miri (166) and Limbang (150).

In the Klang Valley, nine areas also recorded unhealthy API readings above 100. These included Johan Setia (184), Shah Alam (166), Kuala Selangor (158), Petaling Jaya and Banting (157 each), and Klang (156) in Selangor.

In Kuala Lumpur, Batu Muda recorded 163 while Cheras registered 161. Putrajaya also recorded an unhealthy reading of 163.

Three areas in Negeri Sembilan recorded unhealthy air quality — Nilai (166), Seremban (163) and Port Dickson (123).

In Melaka, Bukit Rambai and Alor Gajah each recorded 154, while Bandaraya Melaka recorded 107.

Four areas in Perak also recorded unhealthy readings, with Tanjung Malim at 160, Seri Manjung at 158, Tasek Ipoh at 155 and Pegoh Ipoh at 145.

In Pahang, Temerloh and Jerantut recorded readings of 153 and 152 respectively.

Johor also saw unhealthy air quality in several areas, with Segamat and Batu Pahat each recording 157, followed by Tangkak (153) and Kluang (151).

In Sabah, Kota Kinabalu and Kimanis recorded unhealthy readings of 153.

Meanwhile, 24 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, while two areas registered good readings.

Under the API classification, readings of 0-50 indicate good air quality, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are considered hazardous.
