Sarawak And Pahang Aim For Direct Kuching–Kuantan Flights By Year-End

Date:

Sarawak and Pahang are aiming to establish a proposed direct flight connection between Kuching and Kuantan by the end of this year, pending aircraft availability.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the proposal is currently being refined, with discussions involving potential airline partners such as AirAsia or through Air Borneo. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve connectivity between the two regions.

He noted that Sarawak already maintains air links to several domestic and regional destinations, including Kota Bharu, Langkawi, Johor, and Singapore.

“The direct service will create more opportunities in tourism and facilitate trade, given the relatively short distance between the two destinations,” he said after officiating the Sarawak Entrepreneurs Showcase 2026 at Kuantan City Mall, as reported by Bernama.

Awang Tengah, who also serves as Sarawak’s Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, said the proposal was discussed during his courtesy visit to Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

He added that Pahang’s plan to develop a new port could further strengthen cooperation between both states, particularly in logistics and trade activities.

“In principle, we have agreed to leverage part of the port facilities for logistics and halal processing,” he said.

He also revealed that Sarawak is exploring the development of cruise terminals in Kuching and Miri as part of efforts to boost the state’s maritime infrastructure and enhance its investment appeal.
