Nine areas across Sarawak recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today, with transboundary haze continuing to affect air quality in the state.
Based on data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Serian recorded the highest reading at 194, followed by Kuching at 172 and Samarahan at 170.
Other areas recording unhealthy air quality were Sarikei at 161, Bintulu and Sri Aman at 157 each, Samalaju at 152, Sibu at 151 and Miri at 133.
The number of affected areas has dropped from 11 recorded on Tuesday morning, although several locations remain within the unhealthy category.
Under the API classification, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, while readings from 51 to 100 are considered moderate.
Readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, while 201 to 300 indicate very unhealthy conditions. Any reading above 300 is categorised as hazardous.
The API readings are updated hourly based on data collected from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
Residents in areas experiencing unhealthy air quality are advised to remain alert to official updates and take appropriate precautions, particularly if haze conditions worsen.
