A fisherman was found dead after being reported missing following an incident where he fell overboard while fishing in waters off Pulau Betong on Wednesday.
The body of Tang Chin Khoon, 51, was discovered at about 2.30pm yesterday, located 5.9 nautical miles west of Gertak Sanggul.
In a statement, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said the victim was found by the fishing community on the third day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
The Marine Police Force (PPM) was deployed to the location to recover the body and bring it ashore.
The remains were later taken to the Batu Uban PPM Jetty for identification by family members before being sent to Balik Pulau Hospital for further action.
The SAR operation was officially terminated at 7.15pm yesterday.
Earlier, MMEA had activated the SAR mission after receiving information about a local fisherman who was believed to have fallen into the sea off Pulau Betong.
Penang Maritime Director Captain Muhammad Suffi Mohd Ramli said the state Maritime Operations Centre received the initial report at 10.15pm on Wednesday.
