Seven Fined RM2,000 Each Over Driving Academy Riot Case

Seven individuals, including a woman, were fined RM2,000 each by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to rioting and causing injuries to a driving instructor at a driving academy last month.

All the accused — Azli Mamat, 48, Mohd Azaki Mamat, 42, Mohd Khadri Ghani, 52, Ahmad Faizal Juhari, 35, Muhammad Alif Hakimi Abd Hamid, 22, Muhammad Izzat Romli, 25, and Nor Hasida Mamat, 38 — entered their guilty pleas after the charge was read before Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi.

They were jointly charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 for being members of an unlawful assembly that used force in furtherance of a common intention to commit rioting.

The offence was committed at SKMS Driving Academy in Berangan at about 4.30pm on May 24 last month.

The court was told that the group acted together in a confrontation that escalated into violence, resulting in injuries to the victim.

According to the facts of the case, the incident began when the driving instructor was approached by several individuals who came to the academy for a discussion involving a dispute linked to remarks allegedly made about a female student.

The situation turned violent after tensions escalated during the discussion, leading to the instructor being assaulted by multiple individuals.

The court imposed a fine of RM2,000 on each accused, with a six-month jail term in default of payment. All seven paid their fines.
