Date:

Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was sentenced to five weeks’ imprisonment on Wednesday after being found guilty of contempt of court over remarks related to the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

The sentence was handed down by Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, who convicted the Semporna MP of the offence.

The jail term was ordered to take effect immediately on Wednesday.

However, the court allowed Shafie’s application for a stay of execution pending his appeal against the conviction and sentence at the High Court.
