A hardware shop owner who was detained over the discovery of the word “Allah” on a small shrine within his business premises in Seriab has been released on police bail today.
Kangar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, with the case file to be completed before being referred to the State Prosecution Director for further action. He stressed that authorities are treating the matter with seriousness given its potential impact on public order.
“Police will not compromise on any act that may threaten public harmony and will take firm action against those involved,” he said in a statement. The incident has sparked wider conversations on religious sensitivity, highlighting the importance of maintaining mutual respect in Malaysia’s multi-religious society.
He also urged the public to refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information, warning that such actions could disrupt social harmony. The public has been reminded to respect religious sensitivities and avoid actions that may create tension between different communities.
It was previously reported that the 61-year-old man was arrested at around 3pm yesterday by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kangar District Police Headquarters. The arrest followed a report lodged after a man came across a video of the incident on Facebook page “SAYA ANAK PERLIS”.
Perlis Police Chief, Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim, said authorities received the report at approximately 2.30pm. The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
