Two Men Arrested Over RM5,000 Jewellery Theft At Temerloh Gold Shop

Date:

Police have arrested two men suspected of being involved in a jewellery theft at a gold shop along Jalan Ahmad Shah in Temerloh on 27 April.

Temerloh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron, said the suspects — an electrical technician and a labourer — were apprehended separately on Sunday in Arau, Perlis and Kuantan, Pahang. The arrests came following investigations into the incident that had earlier drawn public attention.

The first suspect, a 46-year-old electrical technician, was detained at around 11.50am at a house in Kampung Padang Siding, Arau. Later that same day, police arrested the second suspect at approximately 10.45pm in the Makmur Hijrah Jaya 4 residential area in Kuantan.

Initial investigations revealed that the first suspect admitted to carrying out the theft, while the second suspect acted as the getaway driver during the incident. Authorities believe the duo worked together in executing the crime, reflecting a calculated attempt to deceive the shop owner.

Further questioning found that the stolen jewellery had already been sold. Both suspects, who have prior records involving criminal and drug-related offences, are currently being remanded to assist with ongoing investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft. In the incident at about 1.20pm on 27 April, one of the suspects allegedly posed as a customer before tricking the shop owner and fleeing with a gold bracelet weighing over eight grams, estimated to be worth around RM5,000.

The incident went viral after closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the premises was circulated widely on social media, sparking public concern over safety at retail outlets.
